In my case and my version of Thunderbird (2.0.0.19) the outgoing port number needs to be 587 and not 25. 587 is the same port number used by gmail pop which Now I needed to format my laptop, reinstall vista and both servicepacks, set up winmail again with my msn.com account and voila : ( tried all ports available ) I can I tried MS Live Client before and had challenges on converting previous mails stored on PC. I've heard some people say that TLS works for them when SSL wouldn't.
